## Synopsis

The Incredible Hulk (1996-1997) is an American animated superhero series created for UPN, adapted from the Marvel comic. Research scientist Bruce Banner (voiced by Neal McDonough) is blasted by gamma radiation during a failed experiment and transforms into the mean green monster known as the Hulk (voiced by Lou Ferrigno) whenever he grows angry. Principal voice cast also includes John Vernon as General Ross, whose military pursuit keeps Banner on the run, Matt Frewer as the scheming Leader, and Luke Perry as Rick Jones. The engine of the series is Banner's constant struggle to suppress his rage while evading capture, with each short episode built around a fresh threat, a clash with soldiers or a villain, and a brawl that lets the Hulk smash through danger. Across two seasons and twenty-one episodes, the show moves at a brisk pace in a contemporary American landscape of highways, cities and military bases. Its tone is earnest and action-forward, with a comic-book sense of wonder and a melancholy thread about a man who fears his own nature. Fans of Spider-Man, X-Men: The Animated Series and the 1978 live-action Hulk will find familiar territory in its blend of kid-friendly spectacle and inner-demon drama.
