## Synopsis

The Last Tycoon (2017) is a United States prestige period drama series created by Billy Ray and produced for Prime Video, adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald's final unfinished novel. Matt Bomer plays Monroe Stahr, a brilliant young studio producer nicknamed Hollywood's Golden Boy, who must contend with Kelsey Grammer as Pat Brady, the older father figure and boss who controls the studio. Lily Collins plays Cecelia Brady, Pat's daughter, whose own ambitions and loyalties complicate the power struggle over the studio's future. Across nine hour-long episodes, the engine of the story is a fight for control, with each installment built from deal-making, creative clashes over films, backroom betrayals, and romantic entanglements. The series is set in 1930s Hollywood, where the Great Depression grinds on the city while the growing menace of Hitler's Germany hangs over the industry. Its tone is glamorous yet menacing, with passion and violence running beneath the gilded studio surface. Fans of Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire and Hollywood will find resonance in its period atmosphere, ambition-driven drama, and moral compromise among powerful figures. Filmed as a single season and canceled after one run, it is a limited, self-contained glimpse into a studio era that never fully resolves.
