## Synopsis

Training Day (2017) is a US crime drama series created by Will Beall for CBS, a one-season canceled continuation of the 2001 feature film. Bill Paxton plays veteran Los Angeles detective Frank Rourke, who runs his squad on off-book methods, while Justin Cornwell plays Kyle Craig, a trainee assigned to go undercover in the unit and report on him. The engine of the show is the tension between Kyle's assignment and the bond that grows as Frank teaches him the way of the streets, with every episode built around the dangerous work of a corrupt but skilled squad. Katrina Law as Rebecca Lee and Drew Van Acker as Tommy Campbell round out the principal cast around the department. The thirteen-episode run is a continuing serialized story set in present-day Los Angeles, fifteen years after the film's events. Its tone is gritty, tense and morally murky, with a propulsive pace and a grounded look at police compromise. Fans of The Shield and Southland will find resonance in its corrupt-cop atmosphere and urban street grit, and admirers of the film will recognize its central mentor dynamic.
