## Synopsis

Deep Water (2016) is an Australian crime drama miniseries created by Shawn Seet for SBS. Detectives Tori Lustigman (Yael Stone) and Nick Manning (Noah Taylor) are assigned a brutal murder in Bondi, and their investigation begins to suggest the killing connects to a run of unexplained deaths, supposed suicides and disappearances of gay men across the 1980s and 1990s. Tori is haunted by the disappearance of her teenage brother, and her fascination with the case slowly hardens into fixation. Chief Inspector Peel (William McInnes) presses them to keep their heads down as more ritualistic murders echo the same bizarre signature. The four-episode story is a tightly built serial killer procedural, carried by the slow accumulation of evidence, strained partnerships and the personal costs of chasing a truth others would rather bury. Its tone is bleak, tense and melancholic, with a sober, grounded atmosphere in which the city's sunny surface hides a darker history. Fans of Top of the Lake, The Killing and The Fall will find resonance in its patient, character-driven unraveling of a hidden crime and the people who refuse to let it go.
