## Synopsis

My Dangerous Wife (2016) is a Japanese miniseries produced for Fuji TV and Kansai TV, a nine-episode limited series of fifty-minute episodes. Hideaki Ito plays Mochizuki Kohei, a café owner who left a major advertising agency and seems to lead an enviable life with his wealthy wife, while Yoshino Kimura plays Maria, the controlling and manipulative spouse whose presence he cannot bear. Kohei secretly conspires with his lover to kill her, but when he comes home to find what looks like blood on the floor and Maria gone, he becomes the prime suspect in her possible murder. The engine of the story is a tightening web of lies, in which every attempt to hide his guilt pulls him deeper, and each episode turns on a new revelation about who is deceiving whom. Supporting characters, including Saki Aibu as Kitasato Anna and Kodai Asaka as Yabuki Yutaka, add pressure from the lover's side and from the people circling the investigation. The show moves as a tense domestic thriller with a wry, uneasy undertone, mixing suspense, infidelity and class resentment in a contemporary Japanese setting. Viewers who enjoy Gone Girl, Big Little Lies and The Affair will find the same marital unease and shifting loyalties at its core.
