## Synopsis

Flower Angel (1979-1980) is a Japanese animated kodomo fantasy series produced by Toei Animation and aired in Japan across a single season of fifty episodes. Its heroine Lunlun, voiced by Mari Okamoto, is a young girl of mixed human and Flower Angel ancestry whom the angels Cateau (Fuyumi Shiraishi) and Nouveau (Takuzō Kamiyama) find living in France and persuade to undertake a long journey. The engine of the series is that the dying Flower Planet king cannot pass on his throne until the legendary Seven Color Flower is recovered, so Lunlun travels through European towns and countryside, encountering the good and bad sides of humans and angels embodied by the ambitious Togenishia and her companion Boris. Along the way she falls in love with Serge Flora, a man who keeps a significant secret. Each episode is a self-contained stop on the trip, giving the show an episodic rhythm that grows into a broader quest. The register is gentle, whimsical and wistful, with a warm storybook sense of place and an emphasis on friendship and kindness. Its shoujo sensibility and anthropomorphic animal and fairy imagery make it a comfortable watch for young viewers and nostalgic adults. Fans of Heidi, Girl of the Alps, Marco and Sailor Moon will find a kindred mix of wholesome adventure and magical heroine journeys in its gentle, sincere tone.
