## Synopsis

The Killing Season (2016) is an American true crime docuseries created for A&E, presented as a single-season limited series of eight roughly forty-three minute episodes. Filmmakers Joshua Zeman and Rachel Mills serve as on-camera investigators, following their own inquiry into the deaths of ten sex workers discovered along Gilgo Beach on Long Island. The engine of the series is the slow accumulation of leads, interviews, and dead ends as the pair tries to make sense of a case that authorities never resolved. Each episode gathers testimony, scene visits, and ambiguous evidence, building toward a picture of a suspected serial killer who remains at large. The shape is compact and serialized, with the story advancing steadily rather than as standalone cases. Set in present-day suburban and coastal Long Island, the series carries a grim, unsettled tone, quiet and procedural rather than sensational, with an undercurrent of dread about the victims and the community around them. Viewers drawn to the investigative style of The Jinx, the forensic patience of Making a Murderer, and the open-ended unease of The Staircase will find much to hold their attention here.
