## Synopsis

In Plain Sight (2016) is a British three-part true crime miniseries created by John Strickland for ITV1. Set in 1950s Lanarkshire, Scotland, it dramatizes the real pursuit of notorious killer Peter Manuel (Martin Compston) by dedicated detective William Muncie (Douglas Henshall). Muncie's relentless focus on the case strains his home life with his wife Agnes (Shauna Macdonald), while Manuel's cocky, menacing presence drives the investigation forward. Supporting principals include Iris Laird (Joanne Thompson), Bridget Manuel (Joanna Roth) and Det Supt Leish (Michael Nardone). Each of the three hour-long episodes moves through interviews, wary witnesses and the grim toll of violent crimes on working class communities. The show is a limited series that treats the true story as a drama rather than a documentary, taking some liberties with events. Its tone is grim, tense and unsparing, with a bleak postwar atmosphere. Fans of The Fall, Mindhunter and Line of Duty will find resonance in its procedural focus on a real killer and its quiet psychological weight.
