## Synopsis

Wingman (2016-2021) is a Finnish television comedy series created by Lauri Nurkse for Yle TV2 and Yle Areena, running three seasons and 24 short episodes of roughly ten minutes each. Its engine is simple and painfully relatable: neighbours Juha "Juhis" Manner (Kari Ketonen) and Tommi Mäkinen-Renwall (Antti Luusuaniemi) drift too far in ordinary daily challenges, and each small problem snowballs into an excessive outcome. Again and again they land in awkward, embarrassing situations where they must pick one of two bad options, and every choice makes things worse. Tommi's wife and Juhis's good friend Harriet (Maria Ylipää) acts as the exasperated but loyal observer who tries to understand the men's antics and absorb the fallout. The format is a continuing comedy of errors rather than a case-of-the-week structure, with the same two friends and the same suburban circle carried through each season. The tone is cringe-inducing and dry, with warmth underneath the humiliation. Fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Nathan For You and Peep Show will find a similar pleasure in social discomfort and escalating male friendship. Set in contemporary Finland, it offers a quick, character-driven comedy that feels intimate and recognisably local.
