## Synopsis

ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept. (2017) is a Japanese animated political mystery series aired on TOKYO MX and rated TV-14 in the US. Produced by Madhouse, it follows Jean Otus (voiced by Hiro Shimono), vice-chairman of the inspections department at the headquarters of ACCA, a giant unified syndicate that has kept the peace for nearly a century. Otus travels through the kingdom's thirteen semi-autonomous districts checking for foul play, and his routine work gradually pulls him into wider conspiracies. Alongside him are his sister Lotta Otus (Aoi Yuki), the inspector Nino (Kenjiro Tsuda), and the investigator Grossular (Junichi Suwabe), whose partnerships shape each case. The engine of the show is a steady, procedural accumulation of small discrepancies that reveal the machinery of state power. The single season of twelve episodes of about twenty-five minutes each uses a case-driven rhythm with flashbacks threaded through. Its atmosphere is restrained, dry and melancholic, with moments of sudden menace. Fans of Berlin Station and Death Note will find resonance in its political intrigue, bureaucratic tension and quiet, observant lead.
