## Synopsis

Ransom (2017-2019) is a Canadian crime thriller series created by David Vainola and Frank Spotnitz and aired on CBS and Global TV. Luke Roberts plays Eric Beaumont, a crisis negotiator leading a small team that is called in when kidnap and ransom situations have reached a point no one else can handle. Brandon Jay McLaren plays Oliver Yates and Nazneen Contractor plays Zara Hallam, colleagues who share the pressure of each negotiation while Sarah Greene and Karen LeBlanc round out the principal cast. The engine of the show is the tension of talking a desperate captor down while time runs out, with each episode built around a single case, its ransom demands, and the personal cost to the negotiators who must keep their composure. The series runs three seasons and thirty-nine episodes of a canceled network drama, with a continuing thread of the team's own lives behind the cases. Its forty-four minute episodes are propulsive and tense, with a grounded, urgent register and a steady current of moral strain. Fans of Criminal Minds, The Night Of and Hostage Negotiator will find resonance in its procedural rhythm and high stakes human focus.
