## Synopsis

My Family (2000-2011) is a British domestic sitcom created by Fred Barron for BBC One, following a London household that turns chaotic in every episode. Robert Lindsay plays Ben Harper, a moderately successful dentist sliding into a midlife crisis, while Zoë Wanamaker plays his wife Susan, a London tour guide whose cooking and housekeeping are hopeless. Their three children, Nick, Janey and Michael, are as different as chalk and cheese, and the engine of each episode is the household friction they create: Nick drifting on his gap year, Janey sharp and sarcastic at sixteen, and Michael a computer-obsessed twelve-year-old discovering girls. Kris Marshall, Daniela Denby-Ashe and Gabriel Thomson play the children. The show runs for eleven seasons of short, self-contained episodes that are easy to drop into at any point. Its register is warm, wry and gently mocking, with a steady undercurrent of British black humor and affection for the family. Fans of Outnumbered, The Royle Family and Malcolm in the Middle will find the same mix of deadpan asides, awkward parenting and loving chaos.
