## Synopsis

Natsume's Book of Friends (2008-2024) is a Japanese anime series created for TV Tokyo and several regional networks, produced by Brain's Base. Natsume Takashi, a high school boy who has long hidden his ability to see spirits, inherits a mysterious book that once belonged to his late grandmother Reiko. The book holds the names of yokai bound to her, and Takashi begins returning them one at a time, a task that pulls him into encounters with lonely, unsettled creatures and the humans who once loved them. Voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya as Takashi, with Kazuhiko Inoue as the cat-like spirit Nyanko-sensei, the series unfolds across seven seasons and eighty-six episodes, mostly as self-contained stories that accumulate into a longer arc about inheritance and belonging. Each episode is built from a village legend, a rural landscape, or a schoolyard friendship, and its atmosphere is gentle and wistful, with melancholy and warmth moving together. Fans of Mushishi and Kamisama Kiss will find the same soft folklore sensibility, quiet supernatural dread softened into empathy, and a protagonist who learns that the spirits he fears are often just lonely.
