## Synopsis

Olene Kadar (2017) is a Turkish national-television drama series created by Umur Turagay and Feride Kaytan and broadcast on atv. Engin Akyürek plays Dağhan, a doctor whose hopes for a professional future collapse when he is jailed for a crime he never committed and sentenced to life imprisonment. Fahriye Evcen plays Selvi, a woman tied to his lost life, while Sarp Levendoğlu, Gülcan Arslan, Tansu Biçer, Cihat Süvarioğlu, Serpil Gül, Fatih Dokgöz, Lale Mansur and Mesut Akusta round out the principal cast. The engine of the series is Dağhan's struggle to keep his hope alive inside prison walls while the outside world he left behind keeps moving, with every episode tracking the slow erosion of his future, his relationships and his faith in justice. Told as a single season of thirty-three long episodes, each running around two hours, the story unfolds as one continuing arc rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its setting is a contemporary Turkish prison and the city lives around it, giving the drama a grounded, intimate feel. The tone is melancholic and emotionally heavy, foregrounding loss, longing and quiet endurance, in the manner of a long-form Turkish melodrama. Fans of Prison Break and The Fugitive will find resonance in its wrongful-imprisonment premise, and viewers of Kara Sevda will recognize its romantic melodrama sensibility.
