## Synopsis

More Than Life At Stake (1968-1969) is a Polish television spy drama created by Andrzej Zbych for TVP1. Stanisław Mikulski plays Hans Kloss, a Polish secret agent who, under the cover of a German officer, works as a double agent inside the Abwehr in occupied Poland during the Second World War. Kloss, really Stanisław Kolicki, must keep his false identity intact while passing vital intelligence to the resistance, and each episode is built around a fresh intrigue, from interrogations and radio contacts to tense encounters with SS-Sturmbannführer Hermann Brunner (Emil Karewicz), a relentless German officer who suspects that something is wrong. Leon Niemczyk appears as a recurring figure in the schemes. The eighteen-episode run plays as a single continuing story, with each installment ending on a new test of nerve. The mood blends wartime danger with a light, adventurous spirit, and the cat and mouse rhythm recalls classic spy adventures. Set in occupied Poland, the show became a national favorite with generations of viewers. Fans of Hogan's Heroes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Americans will find familiar pleasures in its mix of deception, daring and wit.
