## Synopsis

Sherlock Holmes (1954-1955) is an American syndicated television detective series created by Sheldon Reynolds and filmed in France by Guild Films. Ronald Howard stars as the brilliant consulting detective, with Howard Marion Crawford as his loyal companion Dr. Watson and Archie Duncan as the harried Inspector Lestrade, who regularly calls on Holmes for help with difficult cases. The single season runs 39 half-hour episodes, and most are original stories rather than adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyle's tales. Each episode is a self-contained case in which Holmes observes small details, reasons through the evidence aloud, and unmasks a culprit before the closing scene. The engine is pure deduction: a puzzling crime, a set of clues, and a sharp mind that refuses to be fooled. The atmosphere is brisk, gentlemanly and warm, set in a stylized Victorian London of foggy streets, parlours and Baker Street lodgings. Its tone is genteel and cozy rather than grim, with the rhythm of a classic procedural. Viewers who enjoy Columbo, Perry Mason, or the 1984 Adventures of Sherlock Holmes will find the same pleasure in clever puzzles and a dependable detective duo.
