## Synopsis

Detective Anna is a Russian period crime drama set in the provincial town of Zatonsk at the close of the nineteenth century. Its heroine is a young woman who can perceive the dead, and the spirits that cling to her beg for justice in cases the local police cannot crack. Her visions open a path into murders and disappearances, and she is drawn into an uneasy partnership with an experienced investigator who sees value in her gift while doubting its source. Each episode centres on a fresh case, combining procedural legwork, interviews and forensic guesswork with supernatural intuition. Beneath the mysteries runs a continuing thread about the central partnership and the growing unease around Anna's ability and her place in a rigid social order. Gaslit streets, cramped police offices and aristocratic drawing rooms give the show a melancholic, atmospheric texture, while its tone stays intimate and tense rather than grim. Viewers who enjoy Murdoch Mysteries, Ripper Street or Sherlock-style detective pairings, with a dash of the uncanny, will find a familiar appeal here in a less familiar setting.
