## Synopsis

Britannia (2018-2021) is a British historical fantasy drama series created by Jez Butterworth, Tom Butterworth and James Richardson for Sky Atlantic. Set in 43 AD, it follows Roman general Aulus Plautius (David Morrissey) and his army as they press into a mysterious Celtic Britannia ruled by warrior women and druids. Kelly Reilly plays Kerra, a fierce figure caught between the two worlds, while Zoë Wanamaker portrays Queen Antedia and Nikolaj Lie Kaas plays Divis. Across three seasons and twenty-seven episodes, the story runs on a steady engine of military campaigns, shifting alliances, and the rival pull of imperial order against native resistance. Each season builds tension through brutal battles and intrigue, while the mythic undercurrent of underworld sorcery keeps the mood eerie and uncertain. The tone is bleak and visceral, grounded in muddy battlefields and tribal ritual, with moments of dread and ambiguity. Fans of Rome, Spartacus and Game of Thrones will find resonance in its blend of historical spectacle, political maneuvering and dark myth. The series was canceled after its third season, leaving its central conflict unfinished.
