## Synopsis

Chicago Typewriter (2017) is a South Korean supernatural drama series created for tvN, a single-season run of sixteen episodes. Yoo Ah-in plays Han Se-joo, a bestselling writer stuck in a creative slump, and Im Soo-jung plays Jeon Seol, a mysterious ghostwriter whose connection to him runs deeper than either of them realises. Go Kyung-pyo co-stars as Yoo Ji-no, and Kwak Si-yang plays Baek Tae-min, forming a circle of people whose present lives are tangled with their past. The engine of the story is the slow pull of memory: each episode moves between modern Seoul and flashbacks to the 1930s, when the characters' earlier selves lived under Japanese rule and carried the weight of resistance through their writing. The tension comes from unresolved grievances and a hidden bond that must surface before the present can move forward. Built around friendship, romance and the power of words, the show has a wistful, melancholic register, with flashes of tenderness and sorrow. Fans of Mr. Sunshine, Hotel del Luna and Scarlet Heart: Ryeo will find resonance in its blend of Korean period history, reincarnation and romance.
