## Synopsis

Prime Suspect 1973 (2017) is a British six-episode crime miniseries created by Lynda La Plante and Glen Laker for ITV1, a prequel to the classic Prime Suspect saga. Stefanie Martini plays probationary policewoman Jane Tennison, a determined young WPC who is one of very few women in a rough London police station. Her mentor and sometimes adversary, DI Len Bradfield (Sam Reid), and veteran detective Clifford Bentley (Alun Armstrong) sit at the center of a department that doubts her at every turn. Jane's first murder case pulls her into the grim seventies streets of London, where a young prostitute's death and a bank robbery expose the corrosion of the force. The engine of the series is her relentless drive to be taken seriously, and every episode is built from interviews, stakeouts, and office politics where a woman's competence is constantly questioned. The tone is gritty, tense, and grounded, with a textured period atmosphere of smoky interiors, rain-soaked streets, and a chauvinistic workplace. Fans of Prime Suspect, Line of Duty, and Happy Valley will find resonance in its procedural rigor and its unflinching look at institutional prejudice. The single season runs six episodes and works as a self-contained case-driven story.
