## Synopsis

WorldEnd: What are you doing at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us? (2017) is a Japanese anime series produced by SATELIGHT and aired on AT-X, adapted from a light novel. Its protagonist, Willem Kmetsch (voiced by Ryohei Arai), wakes above the clouds after five centuries and finds himself the only human survivor of a world overrun by monsters called beasts. The surviving species lives on a floating island named Regal Ele, and Willem's days are shaped by the fairy weapons, small girls who fight to defend what remains. Voice performances by Azusa Tadokoro as Chtholly Nota Seniorious and Akari Uehara as Nephren Ruq Insania give the girls distinct personalities against the grim backdrop. The engine of the series is Willem's struggle to protect the people he failed to save, with each episode pairing a giant monster threat with quiet moments of grief and companionship. The series is a single season of twelve episodes, told as one continuing arc. Its atmosphere is elegiac and melancholic, with despair and hope in uneasy balance. Fans of Attack on Titan and Made in Abyss will find resonance in its post apocalyptic setting, its sorrowful register, and its fragile bonds between survivors.
