## Synopsis

Samurai Gourmet (2017) is a Japanese slice of life comedy series created by Masayuki Qusumi and released on Netflix. Naoto Takenaka plays Takeshi Kasumi, a recently retired man who feels adrift until he begins channeling an inner warrior spirit and eating whatever he truly craves. Honami Suzuki plays Shizuko Kasumi, his wife, whose patient amusement anchors the household, while Tetsuji Tamayama appears as the Samurai, the imagined alter ego driving Takeshi's appetite. The engine of the show is simple: each short episode follows Takeshi as he tracks down a dish, a restaurant, or a small indulgence, and the quest to satisfy his cravings becomes a source of comedy and quiet self-discovery. Episodes unfold in a domestic, everyday Tokyo-area rhythm, with meals rendered in lingering detail. The series is a single season of twelve roughly twenty-two-minute episodes, a light and warm mix of deadpan humor and wistful reflection on aging. Its tone is cozy, sardonic, and gently hopeful, suited to viewers who love food-centered television. Fans of Kodoku no Gourmet, Midnight Diner, and Solitary Gourmet will find the same appetite for small pleasures and the same comfort in ordinary meals.
