## Synopsis

The Girl (2016) is a Colombian telenovela style drama series created by Clara María Ochoa and Juana Uribe for Caracol TV. Its protagonist, a young woman who once belonged to a guerrilla group, has left that world behind and moves to the city hoping to study medicine, aiming to heal rather than harm. Her path is shaped by the difficulty of starting over: the people she meets, the institutions that judge her past, and the old allegiances that refuse to let go. Ana María Estupiñán plays the lead character Belky Bustamante, also known as Sara, and the cast includes Sebastián Eslava as Manuel Monsalve and Marcela Benjumea as Mireya Pinzon, with Cristina Campuzano and Juan Manuel Mendoza playing doctors in the university milieu. The series runs as a single continuous season of eighty-six episodes, each about forty-five minutes, following one ongoing story rather than standalone cases. Its tone is earnest and emotionally charged, with moments of hard violence and tension, and its register is melodramatic and hopeful. Fans of Ugly Betty, Narcos and Pablo Escobar, El Patron del Mal will find resonance in its mix of heightened emotion, social conflict, and a determined heroine trying to rebuild a life against the odds.
