## Synopsis

Grimoire of Zero (2017) is a Japanese animated fantasy adventure series adapted from a light novel, produced by White Fox and Lantis and broadcast on AT-X and TOKYO MX. Across a single twelve-episode season, the story follows a half-beast mercenary named Youhei (Tsuyoshi Koyama) who, despite his deep hatred of witches, agrees to travel with Zero (Yumiri Hanamori), a witch searching for a magical tome powerful enough to destroy the world. Their bargain is simple: he will help her reach her goal, and she will make him human once it is complete. Each episode moves the duo through fantasy landscapes, skirmishes, and encounters with rival magic users, while the uneasy partnership slowly turns into genuine trust. Supporting figures including the fairy-like Albus (You Taichi) and the enigmatic 13-ban (Takehito Koyasu) add color and tension to the journey. The tone stays breezy and light-hearted, with comedic banter between the leads balancing moments of danger and wonder. Fans of Re:Zero, The Familiar of Zero and Spice and Wolf will find a similar mix of magical quests, reluctant companionship, and an adventure built around a hunt for power. A self-contained, accessible fantasy ride with a warm, hopeful heart.
