## Synopsis

Drawing Sword (2005) is a Chinese national-television war drama series created by its production team for CCTV-1. Set during the War of Resistance against Japan in the 1940s, it follows Li Yunlong (Li Youbin), a bold, unconventional battalion leader whose unorthodox tactics bring his unit victories against Japanese forces. His defining relationship is a rivalry with fellow general Chu Yunfei (Zhang Guangbei), a rival officer whose clashes are slowly tempered into friendship. Commander Zhao Gang (He Zhengjun) and nurse Tian Yu (Tong Lei) round out the principal figures, with Tian Yu's love for Li adding a human counterweight to the grind of campaigns. The engine of the show is the struggle to keep fighting with stubborn independence while the war and changing times press in, and each episode is built from skirmishes, strategy disputes, wounded soldiers, and quiet domestic moments behind the lines. Across a single thirty-episode season, the series moves through a full arc of battles and personal loyalties. Its tone is earnest, heroic and melancholic, with a patriotic warmth and a steady undercurrent of loss. Fans of Band of Brothers and the sweeping wartime melodrama of Winds of War will find resonance here.
