## Synopsis

The Putin Interviews (2017) is a American documentary series created by Oliver Stone for Showtime. Filmmaker Oliver Stone (Oliver Stone) sits across from Russian President Vladimir Putin (Vladimir Putin) in four long, unhurried conversations that form the entire run of this single-season, four-episode program. Rather than a conventional investigative structure, the engine is simply the dialogue itself: Stone presses on contested questions while Putin answers at length, moving from the United States presidential election and the rise of Donald Trump to the war in Syria and the case of Edward Snowden. Each episode is built from these exchanges, with the camera staying mostly on the two men, so the viewer watches a leader's self-presentation under direct questioning. The atmosphere is measured and formal, with a tense undercurrent of mistrust between two nations. Viewers drawn to political documentaries, cold war era diplomacy, and frank head of state interviews will find resonance in the vein of Frontline and Ukraine on Fire, though this is a far more intimate, one-on-one portrait than either.
