## Synopsis

Maltese (2017) is an Italian national-television crime miniseries created by Gianluca Maria Tavarelli for Rai 1. Kim Rossi Stuart plays commissario Dario Maltese, a Roman police inspector who travels back to Trapani, the Sicilian city of his birth, to attend his best friend's wedding. What begins as a celebration turns into a murder investigation that pulls him into the town's tangled web of old loyalties and local power. Antonio Milo plays Saverio Mandarà, and Rike Schmid plays Elisa Ripstein, while Francesco Scianna, Valeria Solarino, and Eros Pagni fill out the supporting cast as the people who know Maltese too well and the authorities who doubt him. The engine of the story is Maltese's struggle to find the truth without losing the friendships and family ties that make the place feel like home. Told across four long feature-length episodes of roughly one hundred minutes each, the series moves at a measured pace, building atmosphere through Sicilian heat, sea light, and the quiet menace of a close-knit community. Its tone is melancholic and contemplative, with a sense of nostalgia for the island and a deep unease about who can be trusted. Fans of Montalbano, Wallander, and other European detective dramas will find resonance in its character-driven mystery, its sense of place, and its reflective rhythm.
