## Synopsis

Battle Angel (1993) is a Japanese seinen anime series adapted from the manga Gunnm and produced by Madhouse and Animate Film. Doc Ido, a doctor and mechanic working in the postapocalyptic Scrapyard, finds the remains of a female cyborg in a junk heap and revives and rebuilds her. The amnesiac cyborg Gally, voiced by Miki Ito, begins a new life in a city where every day can bring a new fight. Kappei Yamaguchi voices Yugo, and Shunsuke Kariya voices Daisuke Ido, anchoring the story in its scrapyard community. The engine of the series is Gally's search for herself amid constant danger, with each of its two half-hour episodes built around brutal street confrontations and bounty-style conflicts. The show is a compact, two-episode cyberpunk story set in a grimy, machine-choked future. Its tone is gritty and melancholic, mixing tender moments of rebuilding with harsh, bloody action. Fans of Ghost in the Shell, Akira and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex will find resonance in its cyborg identity, dystopian grime and adult anime sensibility.
