## Synopsis

Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (1998) is a Japanese animated high fantasy series produced for TV Tokyo, adapted from the manga and set in the invented world of Lodoss. Five years after the great war, the Free Knight Parn (voiced by Nobutoshi Canna) is famous across the land alongside his old companions, the elf archer Deedlit (Shiho Niiyama) and the young Spark (Kenji Nojima). Their engine is a rekindled struggle: Ashram (Show Hayami), the former right hand of the defeated Emperor of Marmo, hunts the Scepter of Domination to reunify the realm under his dead leader's banner, and each stretch of the story moves through overland journeys, skirmishes, dungeon-style quests and uneasy alliances with knights, mages and kingdoms. The series spans a single season of twenty-seven episodes, one continuing storyline in which the conquest is only the surface of a more sinister force stirring toward the resurrection of an ancient goddess of destruction. Its tone is earnest and adventurous, with a wistful undercurrent for veterans who have lived with their victories, and its sword and sorcery world feels rooted in tabletop roleplaying traditions. Viewers who enjoy Slayers, Berserk and other classic Japanese fantasy anime will find the same blend of swordplay, magic and companionship here.
