## Synopsis

The Loch (2017) is a British crime drama series created by Cilla Ware and Brian Kelly for ITV1. Detective Annie Redford, played by Laura Fraser, is a detective sergeant trying to cope with her first murder case, and the search for a serial killer becomes a matter of life and death for her. Alongside her, DCI Lauren Quigley (Siobhan Finneran) and DCI Frank Smilie (John Sessions) press the investigation through the tense, procedural rhythms of a police team working against the clock. The six-episode single season is built around interviews, forensic leads and the strain that bleeds into the detective's own family life, including her sister Evie Redford (Shona McHugh). Set in contemporary Scotland, its atmosphere is cold, rain-soaked and unsettling, with a steady mood of dread and grief. Its tone sits between grounded and suspenseful, and its themes of professional pressure, personal risk and the cost of pursuing a killer give it weight. Fans of Shetland, Line of Duty and The Fall will find resonance in its procedural tension and its brooding, character-led investigation of a murderer loose in a bleak Scottish landscape.
