## Synopsis

Aho-Girl (2017) is a Japanese animated comedy series produced by diomedéa and broadcast on TOKYO MX, adapted from a shounen manga. Its protagonist, Yoshiko Hanabatake, voiced by Aoi Yuki, is an idiot through and through who loves bananas and her childhood friend Akkun, voiced by Tomokazu Sugita. The engine of the series is her oblivious pursuit of affection and everyday school life, in which her unbothered stupidity keeps tripping up the people around her. Supporting principal characters include Sayaka Sumino, voiced by Sayaka Harada, and the class representative Fuuki, voiced by Sumire Uesaka, whose exasperation fuels much of the humor. Each short episode is a self-contained run of slapstick gags and small romantic misunderstandings, and the single season of twelve episodes runs about thirteen minutes apiece. The tone is breezy, absurd and warm, with deadpan reactions carrying the jokes. Set in a contemporary Japanese high school, the show sits within the tradition of light romantic school comedies. Fans of Toradora!, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Gintama will find resonance in its mix of gag comedy and awkward crushes.
