## Synopsis

She's Gotta Have It (2017-2019) is a Netflix romantic comedy series created by Spike Lee, a new take on his 1986 film. DeWanda Wise stars as Nola Darling, a Brooklyn artist who struggles to define herself while dividing her time among three lovers, her friends and her job. Anthony Ramos plays Mars Blackmon, one of the suitors whose eagerness keeps pulling against her independence, while Cleo Anthony, Lyriq Bent and Chyna Layne round out the romantic and social circle. The show runs for two seasons and ten episodes, shot in the look and rhythm of a contemporary New York romcom with direct-to-camera address and witty, steamy dialogue. Its engine is a woman refusing to be defined by the men around her, and each episode turns on the small collisions of dating, friendship and work. Social issues surface naturally inside the romance, giving the series a powerful, candid register. Fans of Insecure, Girls and the original film will find resonance in its frank, warm and sharply observed portrait of modern urban love.
