## Synopsis

Made in Abyss (2017-2022) is a Japanese animated dark fantasy adventure series produced by Kinema Citrus and broadcast on AT-X, adapted from the manga. Riko, a determined girl who dreams of becoming an explorer, stumbles upon a mysterious little boy in the upper levels of a vast, fathomless pit at the center of a remote island. Her drive to uncover ancient relics pulls her deeper into layers of the Abyss, where strange creatures and hostile terrain grow more perilous with every level. Her journey is tangled with questions about the boy's nature and the Abyss itself, and each season is built around expeditions that test endurance, curiosity, and friendship. The series is a two-season serialized story across twenty-five episodes, with a tone that balances wonder at alien landscapes against dread and bodily peril. Fans of Attack on Titan, The Promised Neverland, and Berserk will find resonance in its blend of adventure, tragedy, and haunting worldbuilding. Its visual language leans into lush, detailed environments and grotesque creature design, rewarding patient viewers who want an exploration story with emotional weight.
