## Synopsis

The Family (2007) is a Japanese national-television social drama miniseries created by Katsuaki Setoguchi and Hiroki Ueda for TBS, a ten-episode limited series. Takuya Kimura plays Teppei Manpyo, the eldest son caught between his domineering father Daisuke Manpyo (Kinya Kitaoji), owner and president of Hanshin Bank, and the rivalries of his own household. Saki Aibu, Kyoka Suzuki and Kyoko Hasegawa fill out the family and its circle. The engine of the story is a bank merger that pulls bureaucrats, politicians and big businesses into a single tangle of bargaining, where every negotiation carries a private family grudge. Each episode turns a boardroom meeting into a battle of loyalties, with the household dinner table serving as a second arena. Set in the shōwa era of postwar Japan, the series moves through glossy corporate offices, political backrooms and tense domestic scenes. Its tone is sober and intense, with a melodramatic undercurrent of pride, betrayal and inherited ambition. Fans of Succession and Hanzawa Naoki will find resonance in its corporate power plays and wounded family ties. The show suits viewers who enjoy patient, dialogue-driven drama about power and loyalty.
