## Synopsis

The Standups (2017-2021) is an American stand-up comedy showcase created for Netflix. Across three seasons of six half-hour specials each, a rotating lineup of comedians including Nate Bargatze, Fortune Feimster, Deon Cole, Nikki Glaser, Beth Stelling and Dan Soder takes the stage in Los Angeles to deliver tight sets of sly jokes, hilarious personal anecdotes and awkward confessions. Each special stands alone, so there is no continuing story to follow; the pleasure lies in the rhythm of one comic's voice giving way to the next and in the way each performer turns everyday embarrassments into material. The atmosphere is intimate and conversational, closer to a club night than a polished variety show, with a breezy, irreverent register that rewards viewers who enjoy observational and self-deprecating humor. Fans of Comedy Central Presents, Live at the Apollo and Louie will find resonance in its focus on the stand-up craft, its comedian-driven candor and its unpretentious showcase of working voices. Because each half hour is self-contained, the series suits quick viewing and easy return visits, whether for a single set or a full evening of laughs.
