## Synopsis

The Indian Detective (2017) is a Canadian crime comedy-drama miniseries created by Frank Spotnitz and Smita Bhide for CTV. Russell Peters plays Constable Doug D'Mello, a Toronto police officer who travels to Mumbai to visit his estranged father and is pulled into a homicide investigation there. Anupam Kher plays Stanley D'Mello, the father whose history and secrets complicate every step, while Mishqah Parthiephal plays Priya Sehgal, a local figure who becomes a sharp and necessary partner in the inquiry. Christina Cole plays Constable Robyn Gerner, back home in Toronto, whose own police work keeps the story anchored to his professional identity. William Shatner appears as David Marlowe. The engine of the story is simple: a stranger without local authority must solve a killing while navigating unfamiliar bureaucracy, crowded streets, and his own family wounds. Across four forty-minute episodes, each case thread tightens into a single arc, mixing procedural investigation with warm cultural humor. Set in contemporary Mumbai, the series blends the bright, chaotic energy of the city with the rhythms of a Canadian cop drama. Its tone is wry, humane and occasionally bittersweet, with the pleasures of a fish-out-of-water mystery. Fans of Due South, Psych and The Killing will find resonance in its mix of crime, humor and family drama.
