## Synopsis

Line of Separation (2015-2018) is a German historical drama series created for ZDF, a German public broadcaster, and presented as a two-season limited series of six ninety-minute episodes. Set in the small town of Tannbach, it follows families whose lives are cut apart after the fall of the Third Reich, when the town is split between Soviet-controlled East and Western-aligned zones. Liesbeth Erler (Nadja Uhl) and Friedrich Erler (Jonas Nay) anchor the story as they navigate shifting allegiances, while Anna von Striesow (Henriette Confurius) and Georg von Striesow (Heiner Lauterbach) represent the old landowning order losing its footing. Martina Gedeck appears as Hilde Vöckler, adding another thread of divided loyalty. The engine of the show is the daily cost of ideology: neighbors informing on neighbors, property seized, and love affairs strained across a border that changes who may speak to whom. Each season moves forward through the decades toward the fall of the Berlin Wall, with a measured, melancholic tone and a sober, intimate focus on ordinary people. Fans of Generation War, The Americans and The Crown will find resonance in its blend of personal drama and political history, and in its patient attention to how national upheaval reshapes families over time.
