## Synopsis

The Saboteur (2004) is a Russian war miniseries created for Channel One, a four-episode limited series set in 1942 during the Second World War. Young graduates of a reconnaissance school, led by Leonid Filatov (Aleksey Bardukov) and Grigoriy Kaltygin (Vladislav Galkin), are sent into occupied territory to plan and execute intricate sabotage operations against German forces. Aleksey Bobrikov (Kirill Pletnyov) and Vasiliy Sergeevich Lukashin (Andrey Krasko) round out the core group, while Mikhail Efremov appears as the hard-edged Kostenetskiy and Renata Litvinova as the head of a radio operators' school. The engine of the story is precision: each episode is built around a dangerous mission, with tight planning, improvised risk, and the constant threat of discovery behind enemy lines. Produced by Slovo and Kinoslovo, the drama carries the earnest, patriotic register of Soviet-era wartime storytelling, with tense, grounded action and a melancholy undercurrent about the cost of secret service. Shape is compact: one continuous season of four episodes. Fans of Band of Brothers and Sharpe will find resonance in its focus on covert military operations and the courage of young men under pressure.
