## Synopsis

Comrade Detective (2017) is an American-distributed spoof cop series created by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood for Prime Video, presented as a six-episode limited series of roughly forty-minute episodes. It imagines a gritty, sexy, communist buddy cop show that millions of Romanians supposedly tuned in to during the 1980s, and then digitally remastered and dubbed into English for the first time. Its partnership centers on the detectives Gregor Anghel, voiced by Channing Tatum with Florin Piersic Jr. in the Romanian-language performance, and Iosif Baciu, voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt with Corneliu Ulici in the Romanian role. Each episode runs a case-of-the-week structure built on the rituals of police procedure, with chases, stakeouts, and interrogations played straight and then undercut. The engine is the earnest pursuit of justice inside a state apparatus where every move is watched. The tone is deadpan and irreverent, with a mock-serious register that keeps the machismo of the genre on display. Fans of Hot Fuzz, Reno 911!, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine will find resonance in its affectionate ribbing of cop show conventions.
