## Synopsis

The Romanoffs (2018) is an American prestige anthology drama miniseries created by Matthew Weiner and released on Prime Video. Across eight standalone episodes, each running roughly eighty-five minutes, it follows different groups of people who believe themselves to be modern-day descendants of the Romanov family, the Russian imperial dynasty. Emily Rudd plays Ella Hopkins, and Clea DuVall plays Patricia Callahan, among a rotating ensemble that includes Aaron Eckhart as Greg. Each story stands alone, with its own characters, settings and conflicts, so the engine is less a single plot than a series of quiet dilemmas about legacy, self-image and the gap between a grand inherited story and an ordinary present. The tone is measured, wistful and ambiguous, with long conversational scenes and a deliberate, contemplative pace. Its anthology shape means viewers can dip into any episode. Fans of Black Mirror, Fargo and True Detective will find resonance in its thoughtful, character-led storytelling and its interest in how people construct meaning from history.
