## Synopsis

Final Fantasy XIV: Dad of Light (2017) is a Japanese live-action family drama miniseries created for TBS and MBS, running eight episodes of about 24 minutes each. Yudai Chiba plays Inaba Akio, a grown son whose relationship with his father has grown distant, and Ren Osugi plays his father Inaba Hirotarou, who begins logging into the online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV to find common ground. Fumika Baba and Mako Ishino appear as family members who share the household's daily routines, while Hatsunori Hasegawa plays a fellow player whose presence in the game world widens the circle. The engine of the show is simple and personal: each episode follows the awkward, hopeful process of learning quests, chatting in party channels and carrying real-life worries into a virtual world. Its shape is one compact, continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Based on a true story, it is set in contemporary Japan, in ordinary homes and the online landscapes of a fantasy MMO. The tone is sincere, warm and quietly emotional, with moments of humor and tenderness. Viewers who enjoy gentle family dramas, heartfelt true-life stories or the warmth of This Is Us and Our Little Sister will find resonance here.
