## Synopsis

Inuyashiki (2017) is a Japanese seinen anime science fiction series created for Fuji TV, produced by MAPPA and adapted from the manga. Middle-aged Ichiro Inuyashiki (voiced by Fumiyo Kohinata) is a quiet, ordinary man whose body is replaced by an alien combat robot, granting him enormous power at a point in life when he has little left to lose. His engine is a moral struggle over what to do with that strength, set against the high schooler Hiro Shishigami (voiced by Nijiro Murakami), who wields the same kind of alien power for selfish ends. Their clashes drive an eleven-episode run built around gunfights, city-scale destruction, and the fallout for the people around them, including Inuyashiki's family, voiced by Sumire Uesaka. Set in contemporary Japan, the series is a single continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is grim, tragic, and morally heavy, with a disturbing edge in its violence and mutilation, and a sense of dread about what ordinary people become when given godlike power. Fans of Akira, The Boys, and Death Note will find resonance in its dark superhero deconstruction and its anti hero conflict.
