## Synopsis

Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father (2017-2021) is a British comedy travel reality series created by Jack Whitehall for Netflix. Comedian Jack Whitehall invites his stodgy, unadventurous father Michael Whitehall to join him on trips to odd locations and events, hoping the journeys will strengthen their strained bond. Jack himself is the host and the engine of each episode, pushing his father out of comfort zones while his mother Hilary Whitehall occasionally appears as a grounding presence. The format is unscripted and built from short episodes, spread across five seasons of eighteen episodes in total, with each outing giving the pair a new setting and a fresh bout of mismatch. The tone is warm, cringe-tinged and self-deprecating, with the humour coming from the gap between a restless son and a reluctant father who would rather be at home. Fans of The Trip, Long Way Round and Gogglebox will find the same blend of travel, comic awkwardness and domestic candour. The show runs as a light, easy watch rather than a demanding one, and its laughs rest on the familiar push and pull of family life transplanted onto the road.
