## Synopsis

Anna Karenina is an Italian period drama miniseries created for Rai 1, adapted from Tolstoy's novel and told across two long episodes. Vittoria Puccini plays Anna, an aristocrat whose private longing collides with the rigid expectations of her marriage and the watchful judgment of imperial society. Running alongside her story is Kitty, who must decide between a fashionable suitor and the steady landowner Levin. The engine of the series is the tension between desire and reputation, played out through glittering ballrooms, country estates, and intimate confrontations. Its pacing is measured and emotional, with romantic gestures and quiet betrayals building toward a melancholic conclusion. The series foregrounds sorrow, longing, and the cost of living honestly in a world that values appearances. Lush costumes, handsome set pieces, and tender performances give it a sumptuous surface, while its core remains the human toll of constrained love. Viewers drawn to faithful literary adaptations, classic Russian fiction, and sweeping costume drama will find its tone familiar and affecting.
