## Synopsis

Galileo (2007-2013) is a Japanese mystery drama series produced for Fuji Television, created by Takashi Narita, Hiroshi Nishitani, Mizuki Nishisaka and Kensaku Sawada. Masaharu Fukuyama plays Manabu Yukawa, an aloof university physics associate professor whose scientific mind cuts through puzzling deaths, and Ko Shibasaki plays Kaoru Utsumi, a rookie detective who relies on him to make sense of each case. Kazuki Kitamura appears as the veteran investigator Kusanagi Shunpei. The engine of the show is the uneasy partnership between the withdrawn genius and the determined newcomer, as each murder seems to resist conventional police work until Yukawa's experiments and reasoning reveal the truth. Across two seasons and twenty-one episodes, the stories unfold in a self-contained case-of-the-week format, with a continuing thread of the pair's developing trust. Set in modern Tokyo, the series is a restrained, cerebral procedural with a cool, contemplative tone, a quiet melancholy, and an emphasis on logic over spectacle. Fans of Monk, Sherlock and Death Note will find resonance in its intellectual puzzles and its brilliant, socially distant investigator who transforms ordinary crime scenes into exercises in scientific deduction.
