## Synopsis

The Zone (2017) is a Spanish crime mystery series created by Jorge Sánchez-Cabezudo and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo for Movistar Plus. Eight hour-long episodes unfold in a provincial Northern Spanish city still reeling three years after a nuclear power plant meltdown left a contaminated no-go zone and a community in mourning. As the city prepares for a commemoration ceremony, a mutilated body turns up in a warehouse, and police inspector Héctor Uría (Eduard Fernández) begins a methodical hunt for the killer. His investigation pulls him deep into the forbidden exclusion zone and back toward a personal past he has tried to bury. Working alongside his partner Martín Garrido (Álvaro Cervantes) and a cast of locals shaped by grief and suspicion, Uría follows fragile leads through a landscape that feels both abandoned and watched. Each episode builds dread through procedural detail, quiet domestic strain and the unease of a town holding its breath. The tone is somber, atmospheric and morally weighted, with a mystery that rewards patient viewers. Fans of Chernobyl, The Killing and Broadchurch will find resonance in its blend of disaster aftermath, grounded crime investigation and a detective confronting his own history.
