## Synopsis

Trotsky (2017) is a Russian historical drama miniseries created by Oleg Malovichko and produced by Sreda for Channel One. Konstantin Khabensky plays Leon Trotsky, the revolutionary whose life is revisited across eight interview sessions with Canadian journalist Frank Jackson, played by Maksim Matveev, who arrives in Mexico City in 1940 to draw out the true face behind the legend. Olga Sutulova appears as Natalya Sedova, and Sergey Bezrukov, Mikhail Porechenkov and Evgeniy Stychkin fill out a cast that reaches back to the revolutionary years and figures such as Lenin and Parvus. The engine of the miniseries is conversation: each daily session peels back another layer of a man who changed the world yet lost nearly everything in return, and the tension lies in what he will admit and what he will guard. Structured as eight fifty-minute episodes that unfold like a single continuing dialogue, the series is a contained, talky, reflective piece with a melancholic, intimate register. Its mood is austere and reflective rather than action driven, a Russian-language take on political biography for viewers who enjoy the measured confessional style of The Crown and the historical weight of Chernobyl.
