## Synopsis

John Doe is an American network mystery drama that ran on FOX during 2002 and 2003. Dominic Purcell plays the title character, a naked man who washes up on an island off the coast of Seattle with encyclopedic knowledge of the world but no memory of his own name, his past, or why he ended up there. Jayne Brook and John Marshall Jones play characters who become entangled with him as he tries to piece together who he is. The engine of the series is his search for identity, with each episode revealing fragments of his history while hidden forces pursue him. The show mixes case-driven investigation with a serialized mystery and a steady undercurrent of paranoia. Its tone is tense and brooding, with moody Pacific Northwest atmosphere and a sense that the truth is always just out of reach. Viewers drawn to puzzle-box structures, amnesiac protagonists and slow reveals of a buried past will find its appeal immediate, though the story is left unresolved after its short run.
