## Synopsis

Bose: Dead/Alive (2017) is an Indian historical mystery series created for ALTBalaji, a streaming service known for original Hindi-language drama. Rajkummar Rao plays Subhas Chandra Bose, the independence leader whose alleged death has long fueled rumor and suspicion. Naveen Kasturia appears as Darbari Lal, Patralekhaa as Nandini, and Edward Sonnenblick as Stanley Allen, with Anna Ador as Emilie Schenki and Surendra Rajan as Mahatma Gandhi rounding out the principal cast. The engine of the series is an inquiry into a national cover-up, with characters pursuing records, witnesses and contradictions that might reveal what truly happened to a figure the country has never stopped mythologizing. Each of its nine short episodes of about twenty-one minutes mixes present-day investigation with dramatized episodes from Bose's life, building a single continuing case rather than standalone stories. The period is the mid twentieth century, with the independence movement and its wartime aftermath handled in a measured, somber register. Its tone is tense, reflective and quietly suspenseful, closer to a patient historical puzzle than a thriller. Fans of Chernobyl and Mindhunter will find resonance in its grounded investigation of institutional secrecy.
