## Synopsis

W817 (1999-2003) is a Flemish-language sitcom produced for Ketnet, the Belgian public broadcaster's youth channel. Across five seasons and 131 short fifteen-minute episodes, the series follows six students who share a student house, with Birgit Baukens and Steve Mertens anchoring the household alongside Tom Derijcke and Akke Impens. The engine of the show is the daily friction of communal living: shared kitchens, tangled romances, unpaid bills, exams looming on the horizon and the small crises that arise when six young adults with different temperaments live under one roof. Episodes are light and brisk, built around everyday situations rather than sweeping arcs. The tone is warm, breezy and nostalgic, with a gentle, comforting ensemble energy. Its shape is a long-running, mostly episodic domestic comedy whose characters evolve gradually over its run. Fans of Friends and Ellen, and of youth ensemble comedies more broadly, will find a familiar kinship here. The show is a defining artifact of Flemish youth television of the late nineteen nineties and early two thousands.
